Community Ranger Training Programme

Active since 2019

Community Ranger Training Programme

Training and paid work for rangers from Lethem, Nappi and Aishalton in survey methods, camera-trap servicing and data entry.

Fourteen rangers from three communities currently work with the network. Training covers survey design, camera servicing, species identification and data entry, and every placement is paid.

The programme exists because the people who know these forests best are rarely the people paid to survey them. Rangers set their own routes, and those routes now cover ground no external team has reached.

Training runs in two blocks each year, before and after the wet season, with refreshers on identification for the species most often confused in the field.
