Kanuku Mountains Camera-Trap Network
Forty-eight camera stations across three transects in the Kanuku Mountains Protected Area, recording medium and large mammals year-round.
The network is the desk's largest single commitment. Forty-eight stations run continuously across three transects, from the southern boundary up to the ridge forest above 600 m.
Footage is downloaded every six weeks by ranger teams and processed in Lethem. Every image with an animal is tagged, and the full record is shared with the protected area's management authority.
The grid is deliberately uneven. Stations cluster around creek crossings and secondary forest edges, where detection rates are highest, rather than following a uniform pattern.
